Newborn Photography at Nest Photo Studio: Capturing Your Baby’s First Days

There’s nothing quite like those first few weeks with your newborn—tiny fingers, sleepy yawns, and the sweetest little details you’ll want to remember forever. At Nest Photo Studio in Charlotte, NC, we specialize in professional newborn photography that captures these fleeting moments in a timeless, beautiful way.

Best Time to Book a Newborn Photographer

We recommend booking your newborn photography session while you’re still pregnant. This allows us to pencil in your due date and adjust once your baby arrives. The ideal window is within 7 to 14 days after birth, when newborns are still naturally sleepy and curled up—perfect for those dreamy poses parents love.

But don’t worry if your baby is a little older. Whether your little one is one week, three weeks, or even two months old, we’ll create beautiful baby portraits that celebrate your family’s love.

Why Choose a Professional Baby Photographer

Your newborn’s safety and comfort come first. Our experienced newborn photographer (and mom of seven!) has the patience and expertise to handle every detail. We understand baby cues, work with natural light, and guide sessions with a gentle, baby-led approach. Many families leave calling us the “baby whisperers.”

Our newborn photo studio is fully stocked with wraps, blankets, props, and timeless outfit options. Want to bring something special? We love incorporating meaningful heirlooms or personal touches. What to Expect During a Newborn Session

A typical newborn photography session lasts about two hours. We allow plenty of time for feeding and soothing breaks so everyone feels relaxed. Parents can settle into our cozy studio sofa with a coffee or snack while we work our magic.

Bringing older siblings? No problem—we have a playroom and kid-friendly snacks to keep them happy and entertained. Our goal is to capture as much variety as possible in a relaxed, stress-free way.

In-Studio & At-Home Newborn Photography Options

We know every family has different needs, so we offer two session types:

  • In-Studio Newborn & Family Session – 2 hours @ $395
Perfect for families who want a polished studio setup with access to our full collection of props and wraps.
  • At-Home Newborn Session – 2 hours @ $395
Capture your baby in the comfort of your own home for a lifestyle feel that highlights your family’s everyday love.

FAQs About Newborn Photography

  1. When should I book my newborn photography session?
We recommend booking your newborn session before your baby arrives, ideally during your second or early third trimester. This allows us to reserve space within the first 7–14 days after birth, which is the perfect window for those dreamy, sleepy newborn portraits.
  2. What makes the first two weeks ideal for newborn photos?
Babies are naturally sleepier and more flexible during this time, making it easier to achieve gentle, curled-up poses. Their tiny details — like soft skin, little wrinkles, and downy hair — are also freshest in those first days.
  3. Can I still schedule a session if my baby is older than two weeks?
Yes! While earlier sessions allow for traditional newborn posing, we also photograph babies up to six or eight weeks old, focusing more on natural, awake, and family-centered portraits.
  4. What should we bring to our newborn session?
Bring extra diapers, wipes, a pacifier, bottles or feeding supplies, and a change of clothes for yourself and baby. You’re also welcome to bring sentimental items such as blankets, heirlooms, or special outfits you’d like included.
  5. How long does a newborn session last?
Most newborn sessions take about 2–3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and posing. We keep the environment calm and baby-led so your little one feels safe and comfortable.
  6. What safety precautions are taken during newborn sessions?
Safety is our top priority. Our photographer is trained in safe newborn posing, and all props, wraps, and surfaces are sanitized before each session. We always support your baby during each pose and never attempt anything unsafe or uncomfortable.
  7. Can parents and siblings be included in newborn photos?
Absolutely! We encourage including parents, siblings, and even pets for a few family shots. These portraits add emotional depth and help tell the full story of your growing family.
  8. Do I need to bring props or outfits?
Not unless you want to! Our Charlotte studio is stocked with a variety of wraps, blankets, hats, and props in timeless colors and textures. You’re welcome to bring something personal to include if you wish.
  9. What should parents wear for the session?
We recommend neutral, soft tones like beige, gray, or cream — simple clothing that complements your baby’s colors. Avoid bold prints or bright patterns that can distract from your connection.
  10. How soon will we receive our photos?
A proofing gallery is typically ready within two weeks after your session. Once you select your favorites, we’ll provide your final edited images in both digital and print-ready formats.
